Secuvant Champions the Campaign for National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Oct Mon, 2018
October marks National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), a campaign launched in 2004 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, as a collaborative effort to spread cyber security awareness and provide resources to Americans for online safety. As a NCSAM Champion organization and a managed security services provider, focused on cyber security and risk management, Secuvant will be supporting NCSAM messages in promoting online safety and enhancing awareness of cyber risk in the workplace. Each week in October is dedicated to a specific theme, addressing specific challenges and identifying opportunities for behavioral change. NCSAM weekly themes are as follows:
- Week 1: October 1-5: Make Your Home a Haven for Online Safety
- Week 2: October 8-12: Millions of Rewarding Jobs: Educating for a Career in Cybersecurity
- Week 3: October 15-19: It’s Everyone’s Job to Ensure Online Safety at Work
- Week 4: October 22-26: Safeguarding the Nation’s Critical Infrastructure
Additionally, the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Anti-Phishing Working Group led the development of the STOP. THINK. CONNECT™ campaign to help people understand not only the risks that come with using the Internet, but also the importance of practicing safe online behavior. This campaign promotes three sub-campaigns to spread the message of protecting accounts, enhancing privacy practices, and safeguarding internet-connected devices. The sub-campaigns include: Lock Down Your Login, Own Your Online Presence, and Keep a Clean Machine.
During the month of October, Secuvant will be involved in many activities that will educate people and organizations on cyber security and risk management, providing best practices and resources for safeguarding data and an organization’s environment.
The CYBER24 Podcast Series
The CYBER24 podcast series – in its second season run with 24 episodes – was created to bridge the knowledge gap between cybersecurity experts, business leaders, and policymakers. As data breaches continue to increase and hackers become smarter at developing unique techniques to target organizations, it’s important businesses have a cyber security program in place to manage their cyber risk. Secuvant sponsors and speaks on topics related to different aspects of cyber security including steps for instilling a cyber security program, recent data breaches, legal and tax concerns that can result from a breach, an organization’s vulnerabilities, and more. In October, you can listen to the podcast to ensure you are following cyber security and online safety best practices.
Cyber Lunch & Learn Series
The Salt Lake Chamber will be hosting a lunch and learn series on cybersecurity to discuss tools organizations can use to prevent, detect, and respond to a cyber incident. On October 22, at 12PM MT, Secuvant’s CTO, Todd Nielson and CISO, Matt Sorensen, will host the session Why Should You Care?, speaking on the implications and consequences of not being cyber secure.
